Ethnographic Notes

Again, the story is conveyed by the footprints: our hero had been lurking (no doubt in the dark) behind the young lady's tipi, waiting for her to come out on some errand. Perhaps he may have whistled to alert her to his presence. As soon as she left the tipi, he zipped around to follow her, and they are shown in close conversation. The artist's title for this drawing might almost have been "She Touched Me".

This unnamed woman's red-print dress and leggings of dark blue (shown as black) wool cloth identify her as the same girl friend portrayed on Page 36. The different blanket shown there, however, marks that as a different occasion.
