ANIMALS, 2 OPOSSUMS; GROUP, SIX WOMEN: Women Wear 3 Blue, 2 Red, 1 Gray Blankets

Ethnographic Notes

6 An opossum, probably female, perhaps with a baby without as pronounced proboscis. Markings on the female�s hairless tail represents segments. The other mammal has ears, short face, shaggy fur along the top of its back, clawed paws, and a short tail. If it is a juvenile opossum, its tail is not visible on the page. 7 GROUP, SIX WOMEN. Six women are wearing an assortment of solid-color blankets made of trade cloth (Stroud): three blue, two red, one gray (lead pencil). None wears facepaint. Two wear yellow-painted buckskin leggings with brass or silver small conchos for trim (see Benson Lanford, 2003: 164), two wear blue leggings with small concho trim, and two wear plain cloth leggings. Decorative dress panel strips show beneath their blankets: two white; two red, and two blue. All have bands around their ankles. They all stand in profile, looking to the left.
