Ethnographic Notes

p. 30 BIRDS: Three Red and Three Blue Birds on Tree Branch. This resembles Plate 16, with the horizontal branch and balance of three birds on each side. The branch has needles or simple lines for leaves attached directly to the limb (fir or spruce). The three red birds on the right are smaller, but in every other way resemble the three blue birds on the right. Media: Lead pencil outlines and details; red and blue crayon fill p. 31 ANIMAL: ELK. Bull Elk This drawing resembles the elk in Plates 5, 15, 18, except for prominent ears. The large animal fills the page. It faces right to left. This elk has ribs indicated by parallel lines across its midsection. Tufts of hair are detailed on the head. Other details are split front hooves (rear hooves are below the page), darker fur on the legs and head, tail, and a small rack of antlers (two by two points). No eyes are visible.
