HUNT SCENE: Man on Blue Horse Shoots Buffalo with Revolver

Ethnographic Notes

Horizontal HUNT SCENE: Man on Blue Horse Shoots Buffalo with Revolver This hunter resembles the elongated, curved-torsoed men in Plates 13 and 17. He rides the blue roan horse with dark legs like Plates 13 and 25, or one like it. The man wears dark (lead-pencil shaded) shirt and leggings. The leggings have a stripe of undyed selvedge along the vertical seam. Two red trade-cloth breechclout ends show against the side of the horse. The mans hair is braided and hanging forward over his shoulder. In his right outstretched hand he holds a quirt over the horses rear. His left hand holds a revolverthe top line is lead pencil, and the both line of the gun is made of red. The firing mechanism and trigger are visible. The buffalo resembles others in this ledger. It is outlined in pencil, shaded heavily in pencil, and details are curved horns, round eye, arched tail with tuft, split hooves, and shaggy hair on the top of the head, chin, chest, and back of the front legs. Blood flows from a wound in the side and also the mouth, indicating a kill.
