A Buffalo on its Back

Ethnographic Notes

A buffalo cow, pte (Buechel, 1970: 448). It is unclear whether Black Road's intent was to portray the animal rolling in a wallow; or, since blood is scrupulously never shown, if this might be a dead cow which has curiously landed on its back, after being shot. Compare Plates 80 & 79.
