Right (14): Blank Left: A woman in black-and-red-and-white striped blanket and a man stand before a red tipi painted with jagged power lines. Although there is no courting blanket or chaperone, the fine dress of both the man and woman suggest courtship. The tipi, to the viewer's far right, is outlined in pencil. It is filled with red and blue, with jagged blue power lines against a red background. The center figure is a man wrapped in a blanket with alternating bars of red and blue against a white background. He wears fringed red leggings like the previous plate (8). His lower jaw is painted red with four lines rising two-thirds of the way onto his face. He has one black braid showing, tied with red cloth, and one red Stroud breechclout flap shows. Again, the feet are red. This figure is identical to the plate before except for the blanket, lack of a breastplate, and hair treatment. The left figure is a woman, wrapped in a gray, black, and red striped blanket in this sequence: black, blue, black, red, black blue, black, red, etc. It may be a first-phase Navajo�s chief�s blanket. Such a fine blanket would be acquired through trade. Her face is painted light red on the left, white in center, and red on right. Two black braids are depicted in black water color. She has red leggings edged with white (stroud trade cloth) and uncolored feet with three black bands around her ankles.
