GROUPS, WOMEN: Four Women in Crosshatched Blankets; Blank Page

Ethnographic Notes

Right: Blank Left: Right: Each woman has one black braid visible on her right shoulders (viewer's perspective), and the right halves of their faces are painted red. All the women's feet are shaped like hooves (Candace Greene quoted in Low and Powers: 2012). The first woman, to the viewer's right, is within a white or uncolored cross-hatch blanket. This is a plaid trade blanket. She has black leggings, and the right half of her face is painted red. The next woman is all water color, no pencil, with red cross-hatched robe, black outlined leggings, and half her face is black. The third woman's blanket hem is outlined in black; the rest of the blanket is blue crayon cross hatching plaid. Outlines of leggings are black, and half her face is black. The fourth woman is wrapped in a blue crosshatched robe like the third, except half her face and braid are red. The similar face painting, hair design, and cross hatching connect these women graphically and suggest kinship or shared activity like a dance.
