28 A large buffalo cow and calf are depicted facing from right to left across the page. The cow stands over the calf, which is within the range of her legs. Fringed beard and forelegs on the adult are apparent, as well as detailed horns, tail, and split hooves. This adult buffalo has no eyes. The calf has splayed legs, compared to other calves in the series. In none of these does the calf have eyes represented. This is one of eight nearly identical drawings in this ledger with a buffalo female and calf: Plates 11-18. For further discussion, see plate 11.
29 A warrior on a blue horse (see Plate 9 regarding blue horses) carries a lance. He wears a nickel-silver hairplate ornament attached to his scalp lock. He wears a dark cloth shirt (colored with lead pencil) with nickel-silver armbands. He has a red blanket is wrapped around his torso. He wears a gray clout, and his cloth leggings have a single stripe (see plate 9). The warrior carries a lance with a metal blade tip (Lanford, 2003: 193). This lance is ornamented with two pairs of an eagle feather and red cloth, The horse's tail is tied with red cloth for war. It wears a silver or German silver headstall (Kahn, 2003: 72, 81).
