Vertical HUNTING SCENE: A Diptych of A Man on Foot Shooting Three Immature Golden Eagles The man resembles the hunter with otter ties on his braid in previous plates (21, 22). The man carries a rectangular bag, made of red trade cloth with undyed selvedge creating a stripe along the bottom. It resembles the bag in Plate 18. Here, it is more clearly a bandolier-shaped bag with attached band to hold it across the mans shoulders. A large outlined powder horn also is visible. The man wears red breechclout made of red-dyed trade cloth with white (undyed) terminal edges. He wears the dark leggings with white vertical strip of previous hunters in this ledger (Plates 21, 22). His feet are distinct, but with no details. He holds a short-stocked gun similar to Plate 20, with two trigger mechanisms (two barrels). The two colors, dark above and red below, may indicate the two barrels of the gun. Smoke from the discharge is at the tip of the gun, and dashes across the page indicate the trajectory of the bullet into the upper right-hand birds rear, where red shows the wound. The three eagles have distinct curved beaks, talons, dark bodies and wings, and white tail feathers with dark tips (see Plates 13, 15, 18 for discussion of immature golden eagles).
