COURTING: Man and Woman Wrapped in a Dark Blanket Ride a White Horse

Ethnographic Notes

Horizontal COURTING: Man and Woman Wrapped in a Dark Blanket Ride a White Horse The large horse fills the page. The man wraps the woman in the dark "skunk" courting blanket (see Plate 9 discussion). His braid is wrapped in red cloth, and he wears a long German silver hairplate ornament attached to his scalplock. This trails down the horse's side. He wears red facepaint along the vertical hairline, like Plate 8 and most other instances of facepaint in this ledger. The woman wears the same dark trade cloth dress of Plates 9 and 7. No details of face or arms are visible. The outlined horse has details of silver headstall, ears, reins, hooves, rear fetlocks, and tail. No coloring is used for its hide.
